The Naval Advisory Group Viet Nam was attached to MACV HQ and affiliated with COMNAVFORV from the mid-60s through the end of the American involvement. The officer and enlisted naval advisors were assigned to Vietnamese Navy units within the four Coastal Zones that paralleled the ground corps areas from I Corps (DMZ) through IV Corps (delta). Operations included both Blue and Brown water, seas, bays, rivers and canals. They fought along side their dedicated Vietnamese counterparts and were instumental in coordinating US air support for combat ops, including ambushes, interdiction, MarketTime and Tran Hung Dao OPS, SEAL and ARVN support. A typical advisory unit would be two junior officers and two senior enlisted, messing and berthing, patroling and fighting with the VNN.
