The7261MUNSS (Munition Support Squadron)later redesignated the 605 MUNSS played a vital role in the defense of Europe during the Cold War. Working hand in hand with the German Luftwaffe JABOG-34(Jager-Bomber Geshwader 34. In english Fighter - Bomber Group 34) Located at the Memmingerberg Fliegerhorst(airfield) outside the Southern German town of Memmingen. Memmingen is located in the Allgau region of Bavaria approximately 80 miles SW of Munich. At any given time about 120 Americans were stationed here until 1996 when the USAF closed the MUNSS. MUNSS's have a unique mission of working hand in hand with the with the host nation military. I was fortunate to be assigned here from Aug 1989 to Sep 1993. I was a Security Policeman who got to work with the German Luftwaffe S-Staffel( Security Force) on a day to day basis. A great place, with great people, in a great location!
