USNS SIRIUS T-AFS 8
"REPLENISHMENT IS SIRIUS BUSINESS"


USNS SIRIUS (T-AFS 8) Was the first of 3 british Royal Fleet Auxillary replishment ships to join the US Navy in support of building tensions in the Middle East in the early 1980s. Formerly the RFA Lyness, was renamed USNS SIRIUS on 18 Jan 81. Became the first fully operating T-AFS in 1983 after an extensive yard period at Braswell Shipyard in Charleston, South Carolina. USNS SIRIUS is assigned to Military Sealift Command Atlantic. The other ships that are of the LYNESS class are: USNS SIRIUS (T-AFS 8) formerly RFA LYNESS USNS SPICA (T-AFS 9) formerly RFA TARBATNESS USNS SATURN (T-AFS 10) formerly RFA STROMNESS As of the summer of 2001, The Sirius, Spica and Saturn operatate in the Atlantic/Med Operation Areas.
