113th AVIATION REGIMENT


Constituted 2 March 1986 as the 421st Aviation Battalion (Medium Helicopter) and allotted to the Nevada Army National Guard. (Headquarters and Headquarters Company organized and Federally recognized 8 October 1986 at Reno). Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1987 as the 113th Aviaiton, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System with Headquarters and Headquartrers Company, 1st Battalion at Reno and Company D at Stead. CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION CREDITS: None. DECORATIONS: None. Coat of arms authorized for the 113th Aviation 10 May 1989. BLAZON: SHIELD: Azure, a winged pheon argent, within a bordure gryonny of sixteen sable and argent. CREST: That for the regiments and separate batatlions of the Nevada Army National guard: On a wreath of the colors (argent and azure) within a garland of sagebrush a sledge hammer and miner's drill cross in saltire behind a pickax in pale proper. MOTTO: FIDELITY FRATERNITY VERACITY. SYMBOLISM: Ultramarine blue is associated with aviation units. Blue is symbolic of devotion, loyalty and truth and recalls the sky, the unit's theater of operations. The winged pheon represents attack capabilities, swiftness and sureness in flight of aircraft. The wings reaching upward allude to the mobility of an attack helicopter. The black and white of the radiating bordure symbolize night and day operations, the fraternity of the unit's memers and suggest the whirling blades of a helicopter. DISTINCTIVE UNIT INSIGNIA: A silver color metal and enamel device consisting of a shield blazoned: Ultramarine blue, a winged white pheon, within a bordure gyronny of sixteen, black and white. Attached below the shield and on each side a tripartite blue scroll inscribed "FIDELITY FRATERNITY VERACITY" in silver letters. (Authorized 10 May 1989.) 1SG Charles W.
