319th TROOP CARRIER SQUADRON, USAAF


Constituted 319th Troop Carrier Squadron (Commando) on 9 August 1944. Activated on 1 September 1944 at Asansol, India and assigned to the 1st Air Commando Group. Engaged in aerial transportation of personnel and supplies to the Allied Forces in the China-Burma Theater of Operations. Evacuated wounded personnel, delivered replacements to the operational areas. Redesignated 319th Troop Carrier Squadron on 29 September 1945. Operated from various bases in India, Burma and China flying C-47 aircraft. Inactivated on 27 December 1945 in India. Transferred to the Department of the Air Force per the National Security Act of 26 July 1947. Redesignated 319th Troop Carrier Squadron (Commando) and activated on 18 April 1962 at Eglin Air Force Auxillary Field No. 9, Florida. CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION CREDTIS: India-Burma; China Defensive; Central Burma; China Offensive. DECORATIONS: None.
