145th CAVALRY (45th Infantry Brigade)


145th CAVALRY, OKLAHOMA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD Organized and Federally recognized 5 June 1925 as Howitzer Company, 179th Infantry (Regiment), at Altus, Oklahoma. Redesignated Antitank Platoon, Headquarters Company, 179th Infantry (Regiment) 1 September1939. Redesignated Antitank Company, 179th Infantry (Regiment) and inducted into Federal service 1 January 1941 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Inactivated 21 November 1945 at Camp Bowie, Texas. Reorganized and Federally recognized 9 October 1946 as Antitank Company, 179th Infantry at Altus, Oklahoma. Reorganized and redesignated Tank Company, 179th Infantry 1 November 1948. Consolidated with 645th Tank Destroyer Battalion and redesignated 245th Tank Battalon 1 February 1949, an element of the 45th Infantry Division (see ANNEX). Ordered into active military service 1 September 1950 at Altus, Oklahoma. Released from Federal servie 30 April 1954 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, and returned to State control (concurrently Federal recognition withdrawn from NGUS unit). Reorganized 1 May 1959 as the 245th Armor, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System to consist of the lst Tank Battalion and the 2d Reconnaissance Squadron. 2d Reconnaissance Squadron reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1963 as the 145th Cavalry, a parent regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System to consist of the lst Squadron, an element of the 45th Infantry Division. (lst Battalion and new 2d Battalion hereafter separate lineage.) Reorganized 1 February 1968 to consist of Troop E, an element of the 45th Infantry Brigade. (Concurrently, former lst Squadron reorganized and redesignated as elements of various units.) Withdrawn 1 June 1989 from the Combat Arms Regimental System and reorganized under the United States Army Regimental System with Headquarters in Muskogee. HOME AREA: Sousthern Oklahoma; Headquarters at Altus. ANNEX Constituted 3 December 1941 as 645th Tank Destroyer Battlaion. Organized 15 December 1941 at Camp Barkeley, Texas. Inactivated 30 September 1945 at Port of Embarkation, Boston, Massachusetts. Allotted to the National Guard of Oklahoma, consolidated with Tank Company, 179th Infantry Regiment and redesignated 245th Tank Battalion, 1 February 1949. CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION CREDITS: World War-II: Sicily (with arrowhead); Naples-Foggia (with arrowhead); Anzio (with arrowhead); Rome-Arno; Southern France (with arrowhead); Rhineland; Ardennes-Alsace; Central Europe. Korean War: Second Korean Winter, Korea Summer-fall 1952, Third Korean Winter, Korea Summer-fall 1953. DECORATIONS: Streamer in the colors of the French Croix de Guerre with Palm embroidered: ACQUAFONDATE. Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation: Streamer embroidered: KOREA. Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation: Streamer embroidered: KOREA. 4th Platoon, Company B, awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation for service in Central Korea but has no way to display same. Supply Platoon awarded a Meritorious Unit Citation for service in KOREA but has no way to display same. COAT OF ARMS: SHIELD: Or, a saber bendwise Sable, overall four pheons crosswise of the like issuing froma taeguk Proper. CREST: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Oklahoma Army National Guard: From a wreath of the colors Or and Sable, an Indian's head with war bonnet all proper. MOTTO: KEEN SABER. SYMBOLISM: The unsheathed and upright saber highlights the motto and symbolizes combat readiness. Yellow is the color traditionally used by Cavalry units. The arrowheads commemorate the unit's four assault landings during World War-II, while the taeguk reresents service in Korea. The arrowheads reflect the four points of the compass, underscoring the unit's ability to operate worldwide.
