The mission of Iceland's 85th Group is to provide the CINCLANT with combat ready professionals to deter aggression in the North Atlantic region by protecting Iceland's airspace and supporting contingency operations. This is done through world-class surveillance, air superiority, and rescue forces. The function of the 932 ACS is to detect, track, and identify all aircraft entering the MADIZ and, when necessary, directs fighters to intercept them. By international agreement, the squadron also provides Selective Identification Feature (SIF) information and radar search data to the Icelandic Area Control Center, in the capital city of Reykjavik. This vital air traffic control information is Iceland's only means of positive air traffic control. In order to provide this data, the unit focuses on teamwork, pride, and quality in all endeavors.
