The USS Constellation (CV 64) is the third ship in the Navy to bear the name. Like her famous namesake, the current USS Constellation has a long and proud record of service. Built at the New York Naval Shipyard as the second ship Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carrier, "Connie" has sailed into harm's way many times in the last three decades -- from Yankee Station off the coast of Vietnam to the Gulf of Oman in the Indian Ocean. The Constellation launched the first American air strikes against North Vietnam in response to attacks against American destroyers. In 2001, the ship will set out on her 20th deployment.
