Aircraft Carriers - Conventional

USS Kitty Hawk - CV 63

The USS Kitty Hawk is one of 12 aircraft carriers in the U.S. Navy and the only one that is permanently forward deployed. In regions where the U.S. has a significant stake in a stable political and economic climate, forward-deployed carriers are often the only tangible evidence of American interest and commitment. The Kitty Hawk?s four steam-driven turbines drive the carrier at speeds over 30 knots. The ship has a 4.1-acre flight deck that supports up to 75 aircraft. Additionally, the ship has two barbershops, a laundry, a post office and six operating rooms. The Kitty Hawk truly is a self-contained city that is able to go anywhere in the world to protect national security interests.
