USS Saratoga - CV 60
"Super Sara"


The fifth Saratoga (CVA-60) was commissioned on 14 April 1956. From her Mayport, Florida, homeport, Saratoga made regular deployments to the Mediterranean. Her first deployment to Vietnam came in 1972. She was reclassified CV-60 in July 1972. Returning to Atlantic Fleet and Mediterranean deployments, Saratoga participated in two major Libyan actions in 1985 and strikes against Libyan missile sites in 1986. Saratoga contributed to the Desert Storm operation. She was decommissioned on 20 August 1994.^^br^^^^br^^^^br^^^^br^^Awards: Saratoga received one battle star for service in the Vietnamese conflict.
