Infantry and Airborne Divisions

4th Infantry Division
Steadfast and Loyal

Formed in December 1917, the 4th Infantry division fought bravely in both world wars and Vietnam. On June 6, 1944, the division was the first Allied unit to land on the beaches of Normandy. Going ashore at Utah Beach, the soldiers of the 4th pushed forward until they reached their objective 26 days later and were relieved by the 101st Airborne Division. As a result of his heroic courage during the assault on Utah Beach, the assistant division commanding general, Brig. Gen. Theodore Roosevelt Jr., was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. Today, the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) is based at Fort Hood, Texas, and has three active-duty maneuver brigades.
