Last week I was in Germany on vacation, and made it a point to stop by to see what has happened to the old detachment. I'm sorry to say it has pretty much gone to waste. It was sad to see the old dorms in such a bad state with vegetation all grown up. The only life I saw there was a cat roaming the grounds. Of course it is all locked up with no entry to the grounds but I was able to take a few pics which I will post as soon as I download them. I was also able to locate my old German girlfriend who I left behind in 1975. My wife actually located her, and we had lunch together in Memmingen, then we all went to the old airbase which is now a commercial airport. Even the old Luftwaffe buildings were shut down and fenced off. I had many good memories there, and to see the condition of the place now made me think how things slowly disappear from life as time goes by.
