Historic Flight 12-10-04 10:04a First direct flight from U-S to Vietnam since 1975 has landed HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam (AP) - The last time a U-S passenger plane landed there, it was Saigon. Today, the first U-S commercial flight to Vietnam in nearly 30 years arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. United Airlines Flight 869 carried 347 people, including some Vietnamese who fled their country after the war. It also carried actor David Hasselhoff. Vietnamese women in traditional white tunics and holding lotus blossums greeted V-I-Ps coming off of the plane. The plane left San Francisco last night. It's the first American passenger flight to land since the end of the Vietnam war.
