...To The Shores of Tripoli
Indigo Films is proud to announce the premiere of our documentary for THE HISTORY CHANNEL, "The Battle of Tripoli," on Sunday, September 19th at 8:00 PM ET / PT.
The Battle of Tripoli and its hero, William Eaton, are rarely remembered or mentioned, other than in the famous line of the Marines' Hymn: ?From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli.? Yet what happened 200 years ago in North Africa had a stunning impact on U.S. relations with the Muslim world. In 1805, in what is now modern-day Libya, the recently independent United States had their first encounter with the Muslim world, engaged in their first overseas war, and attempted their first overthrow of a sovereign nation. The show starts with the young US Navy's experience in the Barbary Wars and recreates Eaton's march to Derne with Marine Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon and the first Marine land engagement on foreign soil.
