I can't believe there are only these few members of this group. Purdy will always rank in my mind as special. I was a young 17 year old boot, a Navy Reservist at the time. How I got there is a different story; where I went from there is another one. But, my first time at sea will rank along with the stories I've heard of the botched refueling of Halsey's Fleet in WW II. If there are any Purdy Sailors still connected with this little group, and I don't pretend to be a Purdy man, as in the permanent crew, let's swap sea stories. I'll tell you of the great adventures of this swab; of the trip from Newport to Miami and back; of the two weeks I spent on her in 1965-1966. I'd also like to hear your's. Keep the ship and her crew alive, if that doesn't sound hokey to you. Digo
