Bulletin Board for 1st Armored Division

HHC 3rd Bde 1st AD 70-72
I joined the Bde in Jan 1970 (then 3rd/4th AD). A former Infantry CPT, fresh from 2nd Nam tour in Inf Bns, served w/ the Bde til July 72, when assigned to Ansbach as CO ACo 141st Sig. In Bamberg, I was the Bde SigO/Commo Plt Ldr. Worked for Col. Vincent DeP. Gannon, Col.Tho B. DeRamus, & Col. Walter B. Adam. Those were difficult years, for the Army and the soldiers serving in Germany. Under strength, low pay, isolation, separation from family & friends, a bad drug environment, militancy amoung many Black troops, and a tough and often thankless mission under conditions most today would find hard to believe. (I had 2 Com-Center operators working 12 on 12 off seven days a week for 6 months without a day off, in garrison at the HQ! Months in the field with old equipment & few spair parts, and the WARSAW PAC forces just down the road. For career guys another tour in RVN waited, and for officers perhaps a RIF as thanks for all your sacrifice & service. All that taken into account, I think they did a damn fine job. I served 27 yrs, retired in 1990 as a LTC. I live in Beaufrot SC with my wife of 41 years. email Bob Pearson stormworn@hotmail.com.
