"Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition"

During the heat of the battle to defend Pearl Harbor against the air attack by the Japanese, all electric power was lost causing the ammunition hoists to stop operating. Chaplain Howell M. Forgy was walking near the 5 inch AA guns when he observed a "bucket brigade" formed to bring 5 in. AA shells up from the ammo magazine to the guns on deck.  He saw the sweaty exhausted men in the human endless chain of ammunition,  he walked over and slapped their wet sticky backs and shouted  "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition."
