Mission Background
It's a scorching summer, and you and your men have been assigned to an island in the Pacific. The terrain: Dense jungles, farmland, and rice fields. Control of the island is split evenly between your side and the enemy. In enemy territory, many of your comrades are being held in a notorious prison camp. Nearly 1,000 prisoners have died there in the past year due to exhaustion, starvation, or torture, and now only 500 remain. The enemy is threatening to kill all of them in the next three days if all of your forces do not immediately evacuate the island. The word from on high: Evacuation is not an option.
Your Mission
You have been tasked with a force of about 600 troops to free the prisoners. In addition, you are friendly with the local population and have their full support and resources. With their help, you have gathered excellent intelligence about the prisoner compound. The compound is shaped in a rectangle, with the main entrance at the north end, and a smaller entrance at the south. The eastern and western ends are entirely barricaded. Off of the main entrance at the north end, a road stretches east to west. Heading east, you must first cross a bridge; a city under your control lies one mile away. Heading west, there is no bridge, but the nearest city under your control is 5 miles away. About one mile in every direction around the compound is farmland and rice paddies, and everything past that is deep jungle. You've been instructed to move at dusk.
