According to "Mogin's Mauler's," the official history of the 362nd Fighter Group, the 377th, 378th and 379th squadrons were activated March 1, 1943, at Westover Field, Massachusetts. On May 15, Major Laughlin was assigned as Commanding Officer of the 379th. As soon as the squadron was formed, preparations began to send the men and planes to England.
