Technical Tricks
Military.com | April 06, 2006
Before you drive the car off the lot, you need to have it "prepped": the price stickers must be peeled off, liquids need to be checked, a test drive should be conducted, and so forth. This prep-work is usually covered in the price of the car. However, many dealers will tell you that they have to charge you for this prep-work. In fact, they could double-charge you! When you sign your contract, look through it and double-check that it includes "dealer prep." If a dealer offers this, it will cost you several hundred dollars for something you or a mechanic can do in no time.

Adding Extra Features

Many car buyers falter here. They negotiate the price they want, but end up adding a lot of needless and expensive features.

You, or a mechanic, can add the following features to your car for a fraction of the cost: alarm, rustproofing, window-etching, and so forth.
