The Most and Least Expensive Cars to Insure
Military.com | January 17, 2008
When you buy a vehicle, you have to remember that the insurance you purchase to cover it may add a substantial amount of money to your monthly car payment. However, there are some cars that are less expensive to insure than others.
According to Insure.com, the cost of insuring a vehicle is based on numerous factors. For example, certain cars are targeted for theft — such as the Honda Civic, which was the most stolen car in 2007 — and that can drive up comprehensive premiums for that particular model. Or, a car may have high repair costs, which can increase collision premiums.
If you're not sure how much your car will cost to insure, Insure.com recently published their list of the most and least expensive cars to insure in 2007.
Here's the list:
The Top 10 Least Expensive Cars to Insure: 1.) Chrysler Town & Country 2.) Ford Escape 3.) GMC Sierra pickup 4.) Chevrolet Impala 5.) Ford Econoline Club Wagon 6.) Ford Fusion 7.) Ford F-series pickup 8.) Honda Civic 9.) Toyota Camry 10.) Toyota RAV-4
The Top 10 Most Expensive Cars to Insure: 1.) Dodge Ram pickup 2.) Chevy Silverado C/K pickup 3.) Toyota Prius 4.) Honda Accord 5.) Nissan Altima 6.) Toyota Corolla 7.) Ford Focus 8.) Chevrolet Cobalt 9.) Honda CR-V 10.) Dodge Caravan
This list was published by Insure.com in an effort to educate consumers about buying a new car. If new-car buyers don't do their homework about the car of their choice and insuring it, they will encounter some financial surprises.
"Too many consumers neglect to get an auto insurance quote during the buying process," says Robert Bland CEO of Insure.com in a press release.
"They blindly purchase a car and add it to their policy before discovering just how much their premium has changed," Bland adds.
Consumer Reports suggests that if you buy a new car that you prepare to buy bodily injury liability insurance that will pay at least $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident. And, you should consider buying collision and comprehensive coverage. Try to choose the highest deductible possible, and if you can, pay at least $500 out of pocket.
