  • The U.S. Air Force offers Airmen several ways to earn a commission and join the Officer Corps. The following are descriptions of each of the Air Force Enlisted to Officer Programs: The Airman Education and Commissioning Program (AECP)

The Airman Education and Commissioning Program offers active duty enlisted personnel the opportunity to earn a commission while completing their bachelor's degree. Student must attend AFROTC courses and this will be their source of commissioning.

Those selected for AECP REMAIN ON ACTIVE DUTY are administratively assigned to an Air Force ROTC detachment. Their job is to go to school as a full-time college student.

In addition to full pay and benefits, AECP cadets are provided with a tuition/fees scholarship of up to $15,000 per year and an annual textbook allowance of $510. Students may not pay the difference to attend higher cost schools.

AECP cadets may participate in the program for 1-3 years, depending on their major, prior academic preparation, and age limitations. During the program, they attend school year-round to include summer terms (only exception - no classes during the summer the cadet will attend field training). They will attend ROTC classes. AECP is not an avenue for undergraduate flying training.
