Advanced Pay Grade
The Advanced Pay Grade (APG) program
lets qualified civilians enter the Naval Reserve at accelerated pay and
rank based on experience. This program requires no basic recruit training.
Applicants with prior military service must enlist for a minimum of three years.
Non-prior-service applicants incur an eight-years obligation, with six years in a participating status.

Retraining Programs
Want new skills
in high-demand jobs? The Naval Reserve can retrain you from over-manned or closed ratings
into undermanned specialties. Retraining broadens experience and skill
in fields the Navy needs to meet its mission. The Recruiting Selective Conversion and Reenlistment-Reserve
Program (RESCORE-R) allows Navy veterans (NAVETs) to continue their service in new careers.

Medical Training
The Reserve Allied Medical Program (RAMP) pays for medical or dental training
at a civilian college or technical school while you serve and train part time.
Successful participants receive a critical Naval Enlisted Classification (or NEC). This special training and classification puts you ahead of your peers for promotions, civilian career opportunities and individual military
readiness. Find
out more.

Direct Appointments
College graduates in specialties sought by the Naval Reserve
can earn direct appointments as Naval Reserve officers.
Most appointees attend a two-week indoctrination course
at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. Direct appointments
are available for medical, dental and nursing professions,
chaplains, engineering and civil engineering, cryptology
and intelligence, oceanography, the Merchant Marine, supply
corps and public affairs. Learn
