San Francisco Fleet Week Will Feature the "Navy in Space" Exhibit to Honor the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 & 12 Moon Landings.

Novato, CA – San Francisco Fleet Week organizers have selected The W Foundation’s "Navy in Space" exhibit as a featured event during the 2009 San Francisco Fleet Week festivities from October 9th to 11th.

"Since most of the Apollo moon missions were crewed by naval aviators, this will be a fitting tribute to the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 and 12 moon landings". say Ed Leonard, Chairman of the San Francisco Fleet Week Committee.

The exhibit will be in the Fort Mason Center and will feature unique space-flown artifacts from The W Foundation and the U.S.S. Hornet Museum. The emphasis will be on the history of space exploration, and how discoveries in science and technology allowed the U.S. to achieve its goal of landing 12 men on the moon and returning them safely back to earth.
 
In addition, Astronaut Robert Curbeam is tentatively scheduled to make special guest appearances on Saturday and Sunday.

As a volunteer staffed & privately funded 501c3 non-profit corporation, collector Ken Winans and his wife Debbie Wreyford founded The W Foundation in 2004. It owns and displays one of the largest private collections of U.S., Russian and Soviet space exploration artifacts in existence. It has also attracted legendary figures such as Apollo 12 Astronaut Dick Gordon, award winning actor Bill Pullman and video game designer Will Wright to its Board of Advisors.
